When Jerry and David, the founders of Yahoo bought their first Yahoo office, back in the grassroots days, they ordered gray paint for the walls. It came in lilac; being a new business, they used it anyway. So purple became the official color of Yahoo.

It's purple because of the blood vessels intertwined throughouth the brain. Dead brain tissue is called grey matter, but it's only the outer layer of the cerebral cortex (cerebellum) that you see that is grey. This is because the neruons of this part of the brain are unmylinated. Myelin is a fatty substance that appears white and covers some neurons to help electrical signals pass efficiently from one nerve to another. Underneath the grey layer of the brain are whiter layers, but you never see these unless you are doing some kind of disection. The whole brain is not 'grey matter.'

When the blood drains out, then it shows grey. It just looks purple cuz it's full.
