While it is against my beliefs, I think people should be ever to do whatever they believe is right in their life. If 2 people of the same sex want to get married, who am I to stop them? It isnt my life and its not hurting me- they should have the same rights and abilities to make their own decisions as I do as a straight couple.

The questions really lies with same sex divorce. Laws governing divorce are focused upon insuring the security of the woman. Historically, in a divorce, the man must pay alimony, child support, etc... If a same sex married couple should divorce how does the court distinguish the rights of the individuals. A different legal precedent will be set when same sex couples divorce. The potential for the woman's divorce "protection" could be diluted. Lawyers will have a field day!

No. Call it Fudgepack 5000 or DonutBumparama, but until everyone can agree what this is really about, then we can have an intelligent debate. It's all about INSURANCE. It is not about a civil rights struggle. All civilizations since the beginning of time have always recognized marriage as the union of a MAN and a WOMAN, recognized by government and church. Homosexuals should be allowed to live their lives in freedom, but should also understand that theirs is an alternative lifestyle NOT accepted by most people, and should stop trying to cram it down everyone's throat (pun intended). Every civilization that has accepted poopdicketry has fallen, and most of Europe is next.

Absolutely. The fact that two men or two women get married cannot possibly affect me at all. I mean, I'm straight but my marriage to a woman is not affected by the fact that homosexuals can get married to each other, too. It's a right for some people that doesn't imply a restriction to the rest of the people. So, I agree.

responding to a previous answer, Leviticus (the book that people get their disgust of homosexuality from) also has the same attitude about adultry, fornication (sex without marriage) AND disobediant children... all of these were considered abominations...taken to the gates of the city and stoned to DEATH...reading the bible is an excellent idea, I think a great verse to start with is Matt 7:1-5
Legal marriage is a civil contract, it has nothing to do with religion or christianity....GOD NEVER REQUIRED A MARRIAGE LICENSE, gay couples should have access to the same LEGAL benefits as others.

Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan, who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.
Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.
Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.
Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced
Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced
Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced
Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced
George Will - divorced
Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced
Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them.
Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times. Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act." The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?!?
Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced
Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)
Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced
Henry Kissinger - divorced
Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced
Sen. John McCain of Arizonia - divorced
Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced
Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - divorced
So ... homosexuals are going to destroy the institution of marriage? Wait a minute, it seems the Christian Heterosexual Republicans are doing a fine job without anyone's help!

Marriage is just a piece of paper that you need to be "legally" accepted by the government. They will continue to be together even if it is banned so why stop the marriage issue involved.

No, I believe that marriage is between two people of opposite gender. Why else would God have made 2 different sexes?

Yes it provides same sex couples the same rights and obligations as reg. couples.
Now things can get messy in custody affairs and other legal stuff.
No matter how many partnership contracts you get nothing deals with legal stuff like marriage.
Besides it's a good thing to quit hypocrisy.

No. I am a Christian and the Bible says that it is unnatural for two men to be together. (Same goes for women) I think that people having those types of feelings are just distractions for what they are supposed to be doing. If they look for help in the Word of God, they will find it.
