Here's what Wikipedia has to say:

"The "World" appellation has stuck despite the fact that only teams in the two major leagues, which happen to cover only the United States and Canada, actually participate. At the time the term was first used, baseball at the major league level was only played in the United States. While some would contend that there is no reason to believe that the World Series winner is a significantly better team than any club team outside Major League Baseball, no challenges have been made by other leagues. Moreover, virtually all of the best international players — from the Pacific Rim, Latin America, the Caribbean, and elsewhere — play on Major League rosters, with the notable exception of Cuban nationals."

Dont you have a Soccer game to watch?

Really, do you pay any attention. Pujols, Ichiro, Ortiz, Abreu, Guerrero, and Rodriguez. They are all from different countries. The whole world plays in the world series. The teams just represent America's cities. I bet if you had a tournament with the rest of the teams in the world, and had a 7 game series between the MLB Champs, and the Rest of the World Champs, they MLB Champs would kill the other team. Everyone plays on these teams, not just people from the US.

yeah pretty much all of the best players in the world play in the (US) Major Leagues

also its not a World Series like the World Cup. The teams are not from certain countries, so its not US vs. Canada. Its the champions of the two major leagues. For example, last year it was the Houston Astros vs. the Chicago White Sox, and the year before it was the Boston Red Sox vs. the St. Louis Cardinals

Ever heard of the Toronto Blue Jays? As in Ontario? As in Canada?

Granted, that hardly makes the game global. But most of the world's best players do eventually come play for American teams.

That and Americans are self-conceited jerks. *smirk*

Good question. I think a true world series should include teams from, oh let's see, the world, maybe? Our North American series should be called the American series.

In fact, they're not all from the U.S. Toronto (and formerly Montreal) are Canadian teams.
