Just a few tidbits:

1. African-Americans make up 44 % of the prison population yet are only 10% of the general population in the US.

2. Between 1977 and 1997, the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to black men increased 30 percent, while the number increased by 77 percent for black women. For master's degrees, the increases were 8 percent for black men and 39 percent for women.

3. Expecting people to "get over" roughly 360 years of slavery with no apology or help in roughly 140 years in unrealistic. No one told the holocaust survivors to get over it. They have a Washington memorial dedicated to those who were killed. However, there is no Washington memorial to slaves in America. No Washington memorial for Native Americans killed. And let's not go there with the reservations. They aren't nearly as nice as you think they are.

4. And I'm just talking about the constitutional end with the 13th amendment (Surprise! Emancipation Proclamation freed no one!). We're not even touching the disfranchisement and Jim Crow eras.

5. Don't be fooled: Affirmative Action helps white women more than it helps minorities.

That's why race (and sex) are still major issues in the US. The equality is just not there. And also resent comments about how racism is "bad" in the south. I'm African-American and I'm southern. Trust me, it's bad everywhere.

of course it is, LMAO, probably more so here then in the majority of other countries, which I'll never understand since it's been proven that every human came from once source. And for those who don't believe in evolution we still ALL came from GOD so what is the big deal?

People are just ignorant, petty and evil....and no matter how advanced science or anything else gets in the future there will always be people like that and therefore race will always be an issue

what do you mean? If your races still being racist against other races then yes. If other races get more than others No. I think we have a just America but the people have the choice to decide what they believe! Race will always be a issue until Heaven!

well it is not as bad as it used to be, i mean you can date the oposite of your race and actualy be able to walk down the street with them and hold hands more that you ever could before, alot of things are now considered acceptable, but ya it is still an issue, sadly it will always be an issue to an extent we all just need to know that it is ok to be whatever race you are, and it is ok to mix races it is not a sin. i understand some people are like well most of my family does not have its original background as a hispanic, or white, or black cause everyone is mixing. i understand that people just want to keep the family line going to keep the blood line going strong, but what people dont know is that love wins over all, its more important, it decides what you are going to be, alone cause no one will let you be with another race so you just dont marry at all in fear that your family will dis-own you. or you can just marry who you love and have a wonder ful life. people just need to relax, i married outside of my race, and i am still who i am it does not affect that. race will just always be an issue plain and simple.

Anyone that says it's not is probably someone who has Never been discriminated against or felt the pain from it which is why they say not to make it an issue. I find it mind boggling to still hear people say that racism is not here but I have to think what their background is and how long they choose to keep their heads buried in the sand. Racism will be the one enity that will bring this country down...unfortunately. This is just my opinion

The mere fact that you have to ask that question shows that it is still an issue. Each country/area has an issue that separates one group of people from another. Ours happened to be brought on by slavery, and continues on today, although it manifests itself differently in each region of the country.

only to those that make it an issue. Many people get on with their lives no matter their race.

It's not big of a deal as it was 50-60 years ago, where white supremacsists killed/beat innocent blacks just because they were not white. At that time they would get away for the crime, but now the laws have changed.
