I think Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is the very best Pink Floyd album... discuss.
They never wrote any songs as good as The Gnome or Bike after they booted out Syd Barrett, did they?

Yeah, That was their only good album...after that one they started to go downhill although their records sales would say otherwise! I never could figure out what was so great about "Dark Side of the Moon"!

Since none of Pink Floyd's other albums are exactly like "Piper", it's not really a fair question to ask if it's Floyd's best... "Is it Syd Barrett's best album?" would be a more accurate question. When Syd left, the whimsical, mythological, and childlike characteristics of their writing left as well. Comparing "Piper" to the other 3 albums Syd wrote (Madcaps Laughs, Barrett, and Opel), Piper is his Barrett at his best. Floyd's album that is closest to "Piper" would be "A Saucerful Of Secrets".

Never! A Momentary Lapse of Reason is a classic, as is Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, of course, but you cannot beat Obscured By Clouds. Not only the best Pink Floyd album ever, but damn near the best album ever, full stop.

Not sure it's fair to say Syd was "booted out," but you would be hard pressed to find anything as marvelous as Bike.
