actually, its seconds to the -1 because sound is a measurement of frequency of the sound wave. However, since the frequency is incredibly large for a typical soundwave, the term dB (decibels) came into existence to "compress" it; basically 20*log(f) where log is log base 10 and f is freq gives you the answer in dB.
