The only purpose of any organism on Earth is to make babies of that species.

So the purpose of the mosquito is to make sure as many baby mosquitoes survive to adulthood as possible.

Genetically, that's the only reason for any species to exist.

Ecologically, mosquitoes form important food sources for a number of other organisms. Critters such as dragonflies, swallows, bats, even ducks and other birds feed on the large numbers of mosquitoes produced in wetlands, and use that nutrition to ensure that their own genetic heritage can be passed on.

There are several diseases which use the prolific nature and sanguinous diet of the mosquito to ensure their own genetic propagation, and critters such as Plasmodium (the protozoan that causes Malaria) are able to infect millions of other organisms through their use of the mosquito as a vector. The fact that this happens to cause the death of upwards of a million humans every year is purely incidental to the 'purpose' of both organisms.

They serve the same purpose as all other living beings...to reproduce. Unfortunately, mosquitoes have evolved a very annoying requirement in order to do this (that is, "biting" mammals to take in their blood), but I assure you, mosquitoes aren't trying to take blood out of you just to anger you...they're just doing what they need to do to continue the existence of their kind.

Well what is the purpose of pigs, bats, turtles, sharks??

There is no true purpose. Mosquitos just evolved and survived through their adaptations, like other animals.

Or you could take it this way-what is the purpose of living??

Nothing...you eat, reproduce, sleep. The basic instincits of survival comes first. That's the real purpose of life..to survive.

Just as bees, mosquitoes are an important source for pollinating flowers and fruits and they make great snacks for anything that can catch them. That would include birds, spiders and bats. In their worm-like larvae stage, mosquitoes are eaten by fish and frogs and other aquatic life.
