Sometimes, parents have to put the best interest of their kids in front of common sense.
It may not make much sense for a parent to tell a kid not to smoke, when that parent smokes but, it is in the best interest of the child to not smoke. Same with drinking, etc...
Hope this helps

PARENTS ARE NOT PERFECT! A lot of times parents are just doing things on a wimb... they don't know everything! But most parents' main concern is protecting their children. They don't want you to experience the things they think held them back or may have held them back. I'm not a parent yet, I'm 6 months pregnant, but I am an understanding daughter, who went through some tough times, but came to realize that the things my parents said were all in concern and love.

parents live their unfufilled lives through their children. the things in life parents didn't achieve (ie good grades, sports, activities, personal hygiene, etc) that they have regrets about as adults is where the pressure put upon their children originates from.

They're human and they want their kids to go through life without making the same mistakes they did. We're human, we make mistakes and learn from them.
