Because when we were young our parents infused some false and true things into our brain that made us believe. We want to fit in with a group, so we pick whatever religion we like. And we know when we are young that if we don't like the religion, than we are in trouble.
Also, people WANT to believe in an afterlife, and a good one or they know they will be scared as heck. Then they get used to the fear, and are overcome by the "evidence" that the religion is completely true. Like i've said before, religions are completely man-made, and those men/ women have also done bad things in their lives. The bad things just aren't officially in documents to make them look good.

This is my opinion...

I'm so glad I read your question. I have wondered about this too. We are to believe and live by faith and that faith will provide us with a direct link to God's love and blessings! He is the one that created the earth, stars, moons, planets, and of course, US. Man sure didn't create any of those things. I know it probably seems like we make our own destiny but in reality, we are living the life that God has set us on the path to live. He works behind the scenes but wants us to aknowledge Him as our Lord and Saviour.

We see him everyday in everything - just look around you at all the beauty we have on this planet - only a truly loving God could make all this for us.

I hope this helps you out.

Why do you believe you have to have oxygen to be able to breathe? You have never seen it. Yet, you know without it surely you will die. It is the same thing. If you read the Bible and see all of the amazing things God has done and the sacrifices Jesus made for us to be able to live life the way we do now. While you may not have to believe in God it is awesome to watch how powerful he is from the Hurricanes, to the Tsunami, to the drought. If you believe he gives you all you need, not all that you want, but all you need. God never leaves you and he will not let you struggle. You have to have faith. Your faith will never steer you wrong.

There are many things that are known by the effects. We have not seen gravity. Most of humanity was not aware of it, until perhaps Newton noticed the fall of the apple. In a similar way astute men became aware of the effects of the Almighty.

Notice how Pharaoh was the rich and powerful man, but Moses is loved and revered by Jews, Christians, Muslims, Bahais, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons and many many more. Notice that Jesus was really a "loser" in the Worldly sense, but he is known more than the kings and rulers of his time. Is this all an accident or the result of the effects of a Higher Power, who keeps those alive and their works alive, who remember him.

Many corporations come and go, many declare bankruptcy due to mismanagement. Only one organization keeps expanding more and even more!! THE GOD CORPORATION.

I am a Muslim, so I did not want to "boast" about the Prophet of Islam, who also accomplished more in a short time of ten years, what many a President, King or even prophet can do in a life time. Accident? perhaps... but a goat will never know or understand gravity-- so it may not exist for the goat, but it is there and so is the LORD MOST HIGH who can be seen from our mind's eye from His effects all around us.

THINK ABOUT THAT ONE!!

Take care!!

First, FAITH.

Second, why does good and evil exist? If there was no God, there would be no such thing as good and evil or the feeling of guilt.

Third, the creation of the universe can only by explained by something supernatural (GOD).

And lastly, why do people who don't believe in God continue to live? What are they living for? Why would people continue living when they know that there is nothing at the finishline?

Because it gives us a sense of comfort that something is out there taking care of use. Just imagine how people would act if they thought that there was no God? It would be a total mess cause nobody would care about commiting sins.
