You can meet someone and have sex... immediately. (legal)
You can give someone money for nothing. (legal)
You can stay in a hotel with someone you've been dating for a day. (legal)
You can go to Las Vegas and marry someone you just met. (legal)
You can break-up and never see the person your dating again. (legal)

but if you agree to meet someone, just to have sex - and then give them money - and then never see them again... it's illegal?

How in the heck can that be possible?

I understand and agree with what you are saying but maybe it is a question of morals and that is important in my view, why the US government refuses to legalize it. I am not so sure if the alternative is OK. I was in Paris several times and on one of them I was taken by a group of friends to the area, a famous area around Pairs, where HUNDREDS of prostitutes roam, stand, sit (lay down LOL) on the side of that long, dark road.... I did not particular find that set up appealing... It is at night, you can't see anything except low life females with pretty cheap appearance, very loud making a show of themselves. However, is prostitution a need ? OH YES... how else can a a very physically handicapped guy have sex !?

Also, many women are *expected* to provide sexual favors to their boss in order to get a job, keep a job or get promoted. Refusal leads to termination or blacklisting. (legal)

My best guess (admittedly, with no understanding of this concept) is to officially legalize prostitution would require society to acknowledge, admit and address all these other forms of objectifying women (and sometimes men).

Personally I think it is because of the old, ugly wives of politicians who will not allow their husbands to vote for legalization.
