It is possible that "God", or any deity, is indeed an extremely evolved life form, rather than some creator of other life forms. Bear with me:
Aliens and further "evolved" humans, in our fiction, have learned to use higher brain functions and gained abilities of telepathy, that is, projecting their thoughts into others' minds and reading the thoughts and emotions of others. Also, many of our ideas of aliens seem to indicate that we believe further evolution of mental abilities would lead to no longer needing a physical form, or at least not as strong of a physical form.
Bear with me here: what if entirely losing any static physical form WAS the end-product (or close to the end) of evolution? What if, once a being became mentally evolved in areas of telekinesis, manipulating matter and energy with his mind, and telepathy, reading minds (as our God is)... what if that being lost all "true" physical form? What if, then, his physical form became the embodiment of whatever image was in the mind of that who perceived him? It explains much about why so many religious have different images and ideas of their deities, because of course different religions would percieve this all-powerful, fully-evolved "psychic" being differently.
This explains why God created us in "his image" (maybe HE is in OUR image because we can only percieve him in that way). This explains "free will", because without believing in his existence we would never be able to percieve him, and thus it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perhaps the Universe has always fostered evolution and we merely haven't evolved enough to percieve those life forms that have come before us. Or maybe we have percieved them all, and they are present in the mythology of those cultures (Roman, Greek, Aztec, Muslim) that have percieved such beings.

God is the product of Man's imagination, we as humans need some supernatural force to attribute all unknown or yet to be deciphered questions to. The previous answer nullifies the second question. Evolution is a long term form of Mutation. Humans need it in order to be able to survive, it is an on going process. The end goal of Human evolution is survival. Survival in any environment a human finds him or herself.

Anything is possible! Theologians and scientist have and will debate the probability of evolution vs. intelligent design until they agree on the answer. It appears you are seeking reinforcement of your belief of Intelligent Design. I don't know the answers. Many will answer you depending to which theory they subscribe.

If we were a basis of evolution, and so was God, then why is our skin so week. Up until a few years ago a cut would kill you. If we somehow evolved why didn't we make ourselves stronger physically and not only mentally?

It is possible that god created a kind of computer program with the universe where the rules are in place, but the outcome is unknown.
