I believe being courteous and nice is a great way to give to others. A smile can go a long way. Letting someone cut in during traffic can make someones day a little better. Giving complements can brighten someones world. Simply being a nice person is a great way to give back to the universe.

Think hard about how really busy you are. How many hours every day do you waste watching television or playing on the computer? Can you rearrange your schedule so you can volunteer your time?
If you really are busy for all of your waking hours, you have no alternative other than writing a check.

You think giving someone a check helps them? If you have not the time to spare, the biggest help is staying out of their way and let them lead their lives in peace!. Otherwise, give the check to people who do have the time and resources to help teach people how to better themselves.

Well, being that you are busy your time seems more valueable than money. Therefore you need to take your choice between the two and do that.
