Yes it's fair. They get paid what the studios are willing to pay them for their talent. Their talent, hopefully, yields a great return on the studios' investment. The studio makes money.
If the studios does not make money on an actor then they won't pay so much for their talent. The actor doesn't make as much money and has to take lesser roles.
Sounds fair to me.
Of course it is also screwy that the public is so "star hypnotized" that it pays almost $10.00 to see a movie. Really, isn't there a better way to spend 2 - 3 hours of your life?
How bout this question? Is it fair that plastic surgeons are some of the higest paid doctors in the world? Most of the time their work is not even needed!!!

This is a particular question I have asked myself. I guess it just comes down to "market politics." Some actors--not all-- feel that they actually deserve to get paid that much due to their popularity. And of corse the production company is willing to pay what the actor wants because they know the amount of money that particular actor can generate at the box office. Sometimes I wonder how many actors would continue acting if there was a cap put on the amount they are paid for each film. Most actors strive for the elusive $20 million dollar a picture tier shared by the likes of Julia Roberts, Jim Carrey, and Tom Hanks. All cretable acotrs in their own right, but then you get some other people still bringing in millions of dollars a picture, but they cant act their way out of a card-board box. I just dont see how any one particular person can be worth that amount of money.

No it's not fair. All celebrities do is sing or act and they get paid millions while doctors save lives and have the most difficult jobs in the world and they are lucky to make thousands. Firefighters run into burning buildings risking their own lives and saving lives and they are lucky to make thousands. It's ridiculous. Celebrities are way over paid. Then they spend there money foolishly on purses and clothes and they spend thousands. What about people who can't even afford food?

I agree. I realize that it is entertainment, but when I see a athlete getting million of dollars to throw a ball, swing a club or score a point, it makes me sick. The same thing with musicians.
There are Dr.'s, firemen, and police saving lives and making far less. Our teachers and military are two other groups that I feel are underpaid.
I understand that not all artists are like that--many donate to charity and other things like that, but when I see them with 4 & 5 cars, a couple of houses, 200 pairs of shoes, the jewelery, the clothes and all of that, I can't help but feeling that there is a warped sense of reality.
No, life isn't fair, but if you take a small percent of what these artists make and put it into improving our schools, neighborhoods, poverty stricken areas and other needs, things may actually be better for a whole lot of people.

It's hard to believe isn't it, but what do you think of teacher's pay? I mean, we live in a democratic republic based on a capitalist free market, so who do you think decides what a person get's paid? In a long story cut short- we all do. Get active and stop buying into the machine. Pass it on and lose all of your friends, They will watch TV and buy tickets to movies and sports events without you.
I would say a better question could be- Read any good BOOKS lately?

No I don't think it's fair that celebrities get paid more because our doctors and firemen work hard everyday saving lives and all the celebritites do is entertain. Then when they are done with that they just sit back and realax. I'm not saying they arn't working hard it's just that I don't think it's fair.

It's not fair at all. The world is screwed up. Some of these actors even set a price. Like $12 million a film. It's freakin CRAZY!!!

well, they get paid as contract. I guess that's fair. However, the society will be a better place if the highest pay go to people who make this place a better world such as scientists, teachers, doctors, and so on, instead of unreal characters that drive people to lower self esteem (never beautiful enough) or to crazy ideas (reckless behaviors such as fast & furious).

They get paid only because we pay them. It's not limited to celebrities. The same goes to CEOs of large cooperations that leech off of their workers' hardwork. In a way, that's even worse than celebrities.
I guess it's fair in the sense that they didn't manipulate or lie to you to make you pay them. You like to see their movies, hear their songs, etc., so you gladly line up and pay to enjoy their work.

Law of supply and demand. Doctors and Firemen would get paid more if the free market was allowed to work. Government intervention always make people suffer lower wages and benefits. Remeber that when they try to pass universal health care.
