Snobby, overly polite and proper, talk with a funny accent using odd turns of phrase to express themselves. That is the stereotype. I am not sayign that all British people are that way, but there is the stereotype. At least from the US perspective. Other countries, like Ireland or some of the other invaded countries probably think alot worse of the British just because of the relationship between them.

People from other counties mainly think of 'British' as 'English', they probably don't have much idea about the differences 'over the borders'!
I have worked in many places throughout the world and always tried to explain that there is a vast difference between England and Scotland Ireland and Wales.
I am Scottish , my stereotype Englishman is 'stiff upper lip' 'dapper' and thinks he still rules the world, unable to comprehend that England ever had a history of robbing the rest of the world blind!
And blissfully unaware that people just over the borders actually despise them! (and England also have a crappy football team, they won their first world cup game because their opponents put the ball in their own net!! what a fantastic achievement for England)
Hope this helps??
