Go to a hardware store and pickup wasp and hornet spray. The less expensive kind works just as well at the pricier version (I've done a side by side comparison).
Wear goggles if the eaves are really high up or close so the spray doesn't get in your eyes, otherwise it's not necessary.
Wait till early morning somewhere between 2:30 am -6:00 am when it's very dark outside to spray. (That's when they sleep.) Have a pole/broomstick handle and plastic handy. Aim a steady stream at the nest until no more wasps fall out of the nest usually 3 min depending on the size of the nest. Golf ball sized nests are small in my book.
Many on this thread recommend waiting a few days, but it's totally unnecessary. Just spray until no more wasps fall out of the nest. Wait a few minutes and knock down the nest. The stem is slightly sticky so it takes some force. Wrap it up in a bag and throw away.
If the nest is in your wall, call the county pest control hotline. They will sometimes send somebody out to do it for free.

What I have done myself, I put 2 long sleeve shirts and pants 2 socks rubber bands on the loose fittings a hat and a mesh on top of my hat and welding gloves, next comes the slaughter, I use a vac um cleaner with a thick hose and a net water makes them heavy and co lapses their wings its a joy to have very aggressive bugs unable to do nothing at you and you killing them all, well I shouldn't say that, people may think I'm crazy, just be care full they may even kill you its dangerous and have every one around to get inside and be protected as well, and please don't use insecticides it kills them but it also comes back to you and every one around and poisons you a bit, some people even have after a few days headaches or rashes or even worst undocumented reactions you now insecticide is poison for every living organism, including humans.

You can buy a can of wasp and hornet killer at the hardware store. It shoots out a powerful stream and it's kind of foamy and sticky, so you can hit them from 10 or 15 feet away.

My dad always takes an ice cream bucket of warm water and dish-washing detergent and throws it on the nest. It's supposed to kill them eventually, but first it makes them mad and when they fly out to attack us we hit them with baseball bats or sticks. Or you could use wasp spray.

Raid Wasp & Hornet spray. It kills them instantly. Spray it in the early morning hours when they're all there. You can also squirt it at pesky raccoons and skunks. They won't come back.
