They show Myth Busters tested this, and you would die either way, so you don't need to jump.

If the elevator replaced into falling at a % such because the speed you may earnings on the starting up of a leap, and in case you jumped, say, .a million seconds in the previous the elevator stops without caution, you does no longer sense an result. although, you may likely in reality earnings a speed of about 10 feet/sec in a vertical leap. opportunities are intense if that's all the speedier the elevator is going, you does no longer struggle through any severe harm in case you in reality lay down on the floor somewhat and cushioned your head. An elevator which has lengthy gone nuts is perchance to be dropping at better like 40 to 50 feet/sec, and also you're in worry.

Even a superhero would die. Remember for every action there is a equal but opposite reaction. By your jumping up, you will increase the fall rate of the elevator and you would hit the roof at a speed equal to double your jump speed. So if you find yourself in a falling elevator, take a seat, it will be over really quick.

On the elevator Question...
To walk away you would need to jump hard enough to attain the same speed as the falling elevator in opposite direction.
If you did manage to jump that high you would crush your skull against the elevator roof...
On the Plane question..
This one is tricky because there is no roof to collide against... I'll try it in the next plane crash I'm in and let you know !
You do know how to use an ouija board, dont you ?

even if you get the timing just right you would still be falling pretty fast though in a plane, oh and you'd most likely die
i said most likely because on mythbusters they showed the after math of a plane crash and a flight attendant survived they dont know how though
in an elevator you might get away with a broken bone or 2

The others are right, youd be killed instantly-unless you had super-powers and froze time at the last split sec and walked off the elevator, took a few steps back and then unpaused time. But I'm sure the impact of the elevator colliding with the floor would still kill you.

Nope. The important thing is how fast and hard you hit the ground. Jumping up or whatever will reduce your speed, but not by enough to matter. Mythbusters had an episode about this.

Youll still be falling at so many miles per hour when you jump, therefore, youll still hit the ground and die.

You would need super speed and super timing to accomplish what you say, and this is not like to happen, so say your prayers, the end is VERY NEAR , if you should be confronted by these two situations.

When jumping you're only decreasing your speed by a few m/s, so you're still going might fast. So... no.
Cheers.
