SMTP stands for Smart Mail Transfer protocol. Which is used to send your mail. If you use Outlook Express you need to have SMTP address of your service provider like if you want to use yahoo mail in your outlook express, then you have to opt for yahoo premium account which gives you access to yahoo's SMTP.

Go to your Outlook. Then select Tools in the upper tool bar. From there, select Email Accounts. Once open, click Next, then Select the Change Button. The outgoing Mail Server is your SMTP Server.

SMTP is the protocol for sending email. It stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It's different for each provider, but usually conforms to the standard smtp.(provider's name).com. Just call your provider to confirm with them how they have it set up.
FYI, the protocol for receiving email is POP3. This stands for Post Office Protocol, version 3. Most providers will use something similar to pop.provider.com or mail.provider.com for their POP3 address.

www.simplehomenetworks.com/
emailsetup.php
I Just had the same problem about an hour ago while setting up email on my LifeDrive and got the info on this page for my incoming and outgoing email settings. The page lists many popular email settings, i.e. Hotmail, Yahoo, Comcast ect...
Good Luck,

You can use "nslookup" to determin your mail server.
Open a DOS window and type in nslookup
Then type set type=mx
Then type in you domain name (I.E. comcast.net)
This will return the mail servers for your domain. The last server after the Non-authoritative line is the preferred mail server.
I think you can also verify your username by telneting to port 25 on the mailserver and typing VRFY username but I dont remember for sure.

stmp is like used with pop e-mail. Usually the stmp is stmp.domain.com and pop is pop.domain.com. You really should ask your internet service provider for this information. If you are trying to use it with Yahoo Mail Plus, ask Yahoo help for how to configure your e-mail client program.
