No it is not rude to talk about your house, unless you start talking about how you (and I'm just generalizing here...) have a 5 person hot tub or a 50 inch plasma screen TV, mentioning that you live in a home is one thing, but saying that you live in a mansion, for example, is another. Until recently I was able to talk in-depth to all of my sponsored kids about my home, because it was usually just above the poverty line for where I live. Besides the house what has happened in your life, children love hearing about that and I've found that they sometimes open up more about their own lives

Talk about things he can relate to. It's okay to tell him you've moved into a new house, but probably you won't want to dwell on all the advantages. You might say there is more room for a garden. He would understand that as gardens, and food, are really important.
You can talk about sports --the World Cup of Soccer would be great, as soccer is such a popular sport among third world countries. Talk about things you have done lately -- anything special you have seen -- birds, butterflies etc. Then he can tell you about the ones his his country, which will always be brighter in colour than yours, because that's just the way it is. But it gives him a chance to feel good about something in his life.
Bless you for caring, and good luck to you both!

I don't think there's anything wrong with telling them about your new house, but don't pour on the specifics. Just keep it simple, that you found a nice house for yourself and family in a nice community. I don't know how old the child is, but maybe you can try talking to him about what he is learning in school, any new friends, etc. They will probably be interested in life over here, your letters may even be a kind of escape for them. Use your own judgement on that, you know them better.

You can give him a list of the FIFA world cup games, since in certain parts of the world they play sports but they don't necessarily have a TV to watch it. He might really appreciate some pictures or maybe even a soccerball along with your next letter. Just a thought!

You should write about your daily routine, sure, you CAN tell them about your new house, but don't brag.. (Say Something Like This - 'Ive Recently Bought A New House And I Look Forward To Living In It') That will keep them interested as they will be learning about YOUR culture :)

I'd write about the kinds of things you do for recreation and the kinds of food you enjoy eating. Those are pretty universal.

You could tell them about your new house without talking about ammenities. You could also talk about things that are important to you, like education, values, etc. Talk about where you live or dreams you have.
