Hi Pougar,

Forgive me for intruding on your question since I am a male, but as a US citizen who married a women from Guatemala, in Guatemala, I am intrigued by your question as far as the cross-cultural and gender role issues are concerned. I'm sure you're aware that there are many more male US citizens that have married Guatemalan women than women from the US that have married Guatemala men. Indeed, it may be difficult to find someone here by that description. So, perhaps I might be able to help with my experiences and observations.

I have known Guatemala since 1979 when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer there for two years. I have returned off and on since then. Years after my PC experience, I returned to live and work in Guatemala on two seperate long term ocasions for an additional five years, four of which were with my Guatemalan wife. I sense by your question you may be a female married to or considering marriage to a Guatemalan national. If the former, perhaps you wish to share experiences. If the latter is the case, I do hope you are already familiar with the culture before you make your decision.

Will add more later.
