For Christmas I bought a gift certificate for my mom to have our house cleaned. The amount was $250.00 which is quite a lot for the area I live in. I really liked the conversation I had with the woman who owns the company and felt assured that the extra money I was spending would mean our house would be cleaned very well.

My mom finally got around to having the housecleaning done. The owner of the company came out to see the house and to see what my mom wanted done.

When I came home after the housecleaning I was stunned. Very little was cleaned. The things they did clean were done sloppily. They did not clean any of the bedrooms or our kitchen. They only cleaned 1 of the 3 bathrooms. The hallway was vacuumed but very sloppily.

My mom did not know how much I had spent and I decided to tell her because I could not beleive what I was seeing. My mom called the company today and the owner had no regrets and was rude. I feel like I was robbed. Do I have any recourse?

Call the owner YOURSELF and air your complaints. Call the BBB and make a complaint. If you still aren't getting results, call the local news service... they LOVE those stories about when a consumer gets screwed and the companies HATE it and will usually do anything to shut you up. Did you pay the $250 for ONE service or for several (cuz $250 seems outrageous for one cleaning.... you can hire a mexican for like $25). Do you have a contract or any paperwork from the firm? Did you take any "after" pics to show exactly what WASN'T cleaned?

Just some suggestions, that sucks. The best bet is to go with the news.

Hurry and get some after photos of what you have seen. Go to the local courthouse and file against them in small claims court. You can put the ad in the newspaper if you want, but be prepared to get called out on your proof. The Media isn't a bad recourse either, but be sure to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office in your state. Make sure you sue for all legal fees in small claims. You can only get back what you have lost in money. Be sure to check for damages as well in your home. Photograph them. Best of luck to you. Oh and if tv or newspaper media isn't interested, contact your local radio morningshows. You might be surprised at how much they like to air this kind of stuff.

I would call the better business bureau and file a report. You could also call since you were the one that purchased the gift and see if they are willing to work with you. You could also call a local news station. No one wants bad PR, so that usually works.

Do they advertise any sort of satisfaction guarantee? Even if they do you have little recourse. You could sue them in small claims court but this sounds very hard to prove. Your best recourse is to tell anyone who will listen that this cleaning company sucks swamp water and hopefully it will effect their bottom line.

Run an ad in your local paper stating this. It is not slander if it is the truth. It will ruin their business. And don't forget to tell all your friends about the name of this cleaning service is no good. Call them and tell them that you are going to do this.

Report this company to the Better Business Bureau.

Next time, ask for references.

I imagine the only thing you can do is to take them to small claims court.

You could also report them to the Better Business Bureau.
