The number of children a family has should be decided(for the most part) by the couple. It should be a mutual thing to raise the children, so it should be a mutual thing to decide how many to have. But they should take into account things like finances and emotional ability to handle children. The only exception that I see to this is cases where the parents are incapible of caring for their children or are abusive to them. In those cases, the government should protect potential children from the harm such an upbringing would cause(by not allowing them to be conceived in the first place).

The number of children a couple has should be determined by the prospective parents based upon how many children they can support. I do not believe anyone should be legally denied the right to reproduce (except child molesters) . However, I do feel that if a couple cannot provide proof that they were using birth control when an unexpected pregnancy occurred, they should be denied government assistance. The government didn't decide to be irresponsible and shouldn't use our tax dollars to support those who choose not to abstain or get contraceptives from the health department until such a time as they can support a child. Also, if there is no medical reason why you cannot breastfeed, WIC should NOT cover the costs of formula. Bottle feeding is a conveinence not a neccessity! If there is adequate proof that you are medically unable to breastfeed, fine, but why should my taxes pay for your conveinence? ( You know, "Why buy the cow if you get the milk for free?" Literally!)

I believe in China the government dictates how many children, Zero population growth where you can have no more than 2 children should be mandated throughout the world. This planet cannot sustain any more people as we are destroying the enviornment and using up natural resources. Nature has a way of balancing things out with plague and famine. The plague today is AIDS and climate change and crop failure will lead to famine if the population doesn't decrease. That will be one way of controlling the population

The ability to nurture, care for, pay for, educate and love a child should make the decision. If a couple doesn't have the ability to bring a child into the world that is going to be an asset to society better don't have a child. The last thing this world needs is another liability on society. Government shouldn't be involved unless population is causing true hardships and huge economic problems for the country. In other words couples shouldn't have children they can't afford to care for.

No government should not have the right to tell anyone how many children a person can have. As far as who decides, that should be agreed upon both people involved

A woman/couple should not have more children than they can afford to raise (that doesn't those doing fine and then unexpectedly losing their job, for example). When the government (which actually means we the taxpayers) have to start financially supporting the kids of women/couples who have them knowing they cannot afford to support them on their own, then I think the gov't has a right to step in. I'm childless by choice, yet I help pay to raise millions.

Woman makes the ultimate decision, but it would be nice to council with the man(father) of the children. Government should stay out of it.

Children deserve to have parents who want them. Therefore, if either parent does NOT want children, that parent should be the deciding vote.

In the case of whether or not to continue the pregnancy... it's the woman's body, her choice.

Nobody should have children they cannot afford to support without government assistance.

The couple should decide together, but I think that people who want a large family should consider adoption for at least some of their children. There are so many children out there who need loving homes - give them one! (Plus the earth is getting overpopulated very quickly.)

Michael F Said:
"All men should have a reversable vasectomy shortly after birth and not have it reversed until it can be proven that they are responsible and in a loving relationship."

By removing the responsibility, you would ensure that most men would never become responsible. The government should never have any say about how many children a family has.
