For a job that has NOTHING whatsoever to do with being attractive or not (excluding jobs in sales, television, etc).....

If all else is equal, then yes. I have heard people complain about this, only to find that the more attractive person happened to also be more qualified or not a parent or nowhere near retirement age or a nonsmoker or some other thing that makes you a more useful employee.

Now, if the "less attractive" person was more qualified, and was willing to do the job for the same pay, then it is indeed wrong.

Yes it could be considered discriminatory if it can be proven, but usually there would be a specific reason that could be cited for one person getting a job over another person.

Depends on nature of job i.e. reception, restaurant hostess, etc. where appearance matter.
Sadly it's a fact that attractiveness is a major BUT not a deciding factor in employment.
However if a person just as confident with the adequate skill/ experience get by just fine even if they lack in the looks department.

Unfortunately discrimination happens. i watched this documentary on how 2 groups of people with the exact same qualifications except one was good looking and the other was average .
the good looking group got the job while the average looking people were denied, in fact when the good looking people stopped to ask for directions people were more than eager to help them but for the average people they were often treated with cold reception.
I believe this is wrong but many companies hire you based on how much profits you can make for there company and good looking people sometimes get warmer reception, hence they can make more money. which is kind of sad.

YES! I have been hired by women who were attracted to me. Sad but true. Was I qualified? Yes. Did I do a good job? Yes. But I feel the phyisical attraction was key to the interview. Sucks when you think about it.

In a perfect world - outside appearance will not matter. however it DOES MATTER. I have taken several Socialogical classes and study after study shows this trend to go with attractive every time. So yes, it is wrong, but it happens so work with it.

wrong or right - its reality. we have to deal with it. we are no different than any other animals. thats all we are - animals.

its human nature - we are drawn to better looking creatures because it symbolizes good health. also, we are drawn to those we would like to be and that we admire.

Maybe it isnt right - but it is the way it has always been, and the way it will always be. Thats why we have makeup, plastic surgery and gyms. . . . . blah blah blah ;)

attractive = power = money

Is it wrong - yes in most cases-
However I take great pride in my appearance and have confidence- I may have got my job because I was one of the "prettiest" of the other canidates- But I was smart, witty, and brainy-
Confidence sells more than anything-

i think it is very discriminating. the good looking 1 could be the total idiot while the bad looking 1 could be a total genious. (good looking; bad @ job, bad looking; good @ job) its totally steriotypical. the good looking people always have 2 be good @ everything in society, dont they? (or @ least in almost all the movies i've seen)

It's not only wrong, but illegal. Well, not exactly illegal that it's covered in Title VII, but chances are if it goes to court, the person who was being discriminated against witll win guaranteed they can prove it.
