Okay so I’m really dark ( like milk/dark herseys chocolate bar) and I have a wide nose and big lips. I look thin and wear petite large/medium and work out like the devil. I am 5’6’’ and weigh about 179 lbs but that can be taken care of really easily (if I must I WILL lose it). I just want to know what you think my prospects are for acting . Please be honest, don’t pussy foot your judgements, I do want the truth. Thanks.

About the word ugly in your question.. ugly is what society deams unacceptable at the time, and right now, I feel that people that do not fit the "typical" Hollywood stereotype are beginning to make a breakthrough in the acting industry. If you are a good actor/actress, then go for it. Do not let other people hold you back. Don't try and become something that you aren't just to fit in. Do what you love and have a great time doing it! If it doesn't work out then find something else you enjoy. It's all up to you!

The truth. I mean no disrespect to Steve Buscemi, but he is not a 10 by any means , and yet he is apparently a very successful movie actor. There are many others. How about the Wicked witch in Wizard of Oz? Forrest Whittaker is more average than "beautiful."

My guess is that you might be type cast as a character actor rather than a lead.

SOMEBODY has to play the average person.

Best of luck.

I think you have a good chance. Charactor actors who can really act are very popular in TV. Example: Lindsay Hollister is overweight but she can ACT! She is really busy and has been since basically day one.! http://www.lindsayhollister.net
or claudetter Wyms. Dark and not traditionally beautifull bu she can ACT! www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/the_shield/main.html

Spend some time looking at charactor actors and less time looking at beautiful flippin people. If nothing else.. check out the BBC or on Broadway. They take talent over looks .... Good Luck and go for it.

Do you want to be a model or an actor? There are some actors out there that are unbelievably great actors but are not the "typical" pretty. So, YES-if you love acting and you know you are good at it, then I would go for it. Do you think actors like Kevin James were ever told they need to lose weight, etc.... and he is a great actor!

Yeah-
Look at Billy Bob Thorton, Ellen, Rosie O Donnel, Jack Black, Tom Cruise (wait he was cute until he went crazy) , etc.
As long as you can act looks are not that important

Have you ever seen Steve Buscemi? Or Camryn Manheim? But both of these people are GREAT actors. Work at your craft.

just look at are celebrities today, there are plenty of ugly actors out there that are considered hot and sexy, just because they know to act really really well. Go out there and show hollywood what your made of! --I want to be an actor too-- I know exactly how you feel..

John Turturro. Case closed.

Seriously, though, if you have talent and a good work ethic, you may be able to overcome people's perception of your looks. However, sadly, the roles you get may be limited, especially if you are female (you don't specify).
