Discrimination can only be overcome one person at a time. It isn't something that can be imposed on people, but something that people have to come to understand and accept. All the anti-hate laws in the world won't change anyone's mind about how they feel about people of another race or creed. Getting to know those people on an individual basis will.
The best thing you can do, is help your children and people in your family, understand that looking at people from the outside doesn't let you understand what's going on inside, and that you have to set aside prejudice and ignorance to do that.
Good luck!

Well, in many ways, discrimination is a GOOD THING!
Now, before you burn me at the stake, let me explain. The word discrimination means being able to make a distinction between two different things. Like, there is a cupcake on one plate in front of you and a toy car on the other. Depending on what you want at the time, you "discriminate" between the two objects and use this to decide which one you want.
Or, you meet two girls at school. You clearly discriminate between the two girls attributes: their appeal to you, their attractiveness, their availability, their attitude, their likes and dislikes, their style, whatever. You make a discriminating judgement as to which one you might ask out.
Racial or ethnic or religious discrimination, that is, pre-judging someone based on 'what they are' rather than 'who they are', is a bad thing. Keep an open mind and often others will too. Those that don't are small-minded people who are threatened by the big world. Steer clear of them.

Great question!!!!!!!!!
I must agree with some others. Discrimination will never go away. I also like how some people automatically think of "color" when you say discrimination. Discrimination is much more than just not liking one's color! Lets make that clear first. As a whole the human race holds grudges for many reasons. This being so one creates a "safe haven" for themself by chosing to side against a person or persons. You can't end an epidemic that has no end. Ones idea of discrimination will be completely different from anothers. And sombody is always going to hate somebody else and discriminate against that person or persons. Unfortunately it's just HUMAN NATURE! Many people who say they do not discriminate, in fact do..........Do they welcome the one that does "discrimitate" into their home for tea or coffee? No they shun them away, and resent them for their ways......Just another form of discrimination in a sense.

Discrimination is a judgement call. The only way you can permanently end all discrimination is to end all judgement. However you can make a difference by noticing how you judge others throughout the day (Is the homeless guy really a bum or just someone down on his luck? Is that fat girl really deserving of your scorn or does she have a medical problem and or family history of obesity that she can't help?) If each person chose to examine their own prejudices and tried to eliminate those judgements in themselves slowly our society would get better and less discriminatory.

Discrimination results from conservative thinking. Discrimination cannot be uprooted all together as a whole but rather it can be eradicated with empathetic feeling. That is the feeling with the others. When ever you feel to discriminate others, put you in that person's position and think what would be your feeling if you are treated by others like that. I think, in the case of every person this thought may relieve the tendency to discriminate others.
Every discrimination is established by humans for their own selfishness, to project oneself or his her kind supressing the others. Every human is alike and none is higher or lower than the other.

discrimination is something that is learned. You are not born with it. When parents stop teaching their children to discriminate and when they stop discriminating themselves, then discrimination will end. some cultures discriminate within themselves, one is lighter than the other, one group of people are supposedly smarter than another group, all of this starts at home. The home is the basic unit of society, when discrimination ends at home, then it wil be obsolete in the world.

You can't. It's been around since the beginning of time and it will be here until the world as we know it, has ended. As long as people are different from one another, there will be discrimination.

We must first and fore more learn more about our neighbors there likes dislikes and cultures. Discrimination hangs on the unknown. We as a people must realize that being different is not a being wrong. But instead it a widow of learning opportunity. This school of thought must start in the home. We must all step outside of the box and live, learn and co mingle with other races and nationalities. Fear is what is holding this country back from the benifits of racial equality. Fear alone. Sad but true.

One can't. There will always be discrimination in this world. Unfortunately, it's part of life that will never change. Even if everyone looked the EXACT same way, people would still find things to judge others about.

It wil take a long time, but the only way to finally be done with (racial or ethnic) discrimination is to set a good example to those around you and not practice it yourself.
Remember what Dr. King said: we should be judged on the content of our character, not the color of our skin.
