I keep a 5 gallon bucket of water outside. after cutting the flowers I place them bloom side down in the water, leave them for 20 minutes or so.Swirl them around before removing. Shake them gently and you should be good to go.
Ants and peonies go hand in hand, with out the ants...no blooms. Just be patient when cutting, soak and wait. Good luck and God Bless

I usually beat the peonies on the ground or shake the hell out of them before I bring them in the house to get all the ants off.

Put the flowers in the kitchen sink until all the ants come out..Wash em down the drain

peonies can't grow without the ants.
it's one of those bazaar nature things
