Everyone's a critic b/c they can't run their own lives. Ask them the next time they try to control you "hmm, sounds like you are being a JAFO - yeah, a JAFO, what is it - Just Another Fxck'n Observer, so shut the fxck up pal." That should work.

Unless of course you are a mess and need the control - then shut up and listen.

Cheers.

I think this could be due to a myriad of reasons; here are a few:
1. You were part of a very controlling family from the beginning in which case you may just have to cut ties with them for the time being to develop your own identity. Letting them know you love them but you need space
2. You were not very responsible while growing up in which case they may feel you are still immature and need taking care of. You could try sitting down with them and letting them know that fro a time; say 6 months, you will be on your own and that you will take full responsibility for your life
3. They are not over controlling but in your mind they are. If this is the case you could try getting a reality check bu confronting them and letting them voice just how wrong you are.

Listen to what they have to say, and then do your own thing. Those people love you and want to give you the benefit of their experience so you don't have to learn the hard way. It's also very hard to see your children grow up and become adults. We still want to protect you. As a parent that never goes away.

I'm 31 and their still doing that. LOL
Seriously, it's because they have way more experience in life than us and just want to make sure we make the right decisions. Yes, ultimately it's up to us to make our own decisions and make some mistakes. All they want to do is guide us down the right path and avoid us getting hurt along the way.

You may not want to hear what they have to say but I would say listen to what they are telling you. They were your age once and experience in these matters is what counts. They are giving you advice from the heart.
