If an athlete is good enough to leave early and can get drafted in the earlier rounds in the draft, then its a no brain-er. But stay healthy and of trouble and hire a good agent. Besides, a simple degree wont make you the big money unless you further you education as seen with law school, medical school, masters programs...etc

They should have the same opportunities that a non athlete should have. If a non-athlete has the chance to make a living leaving early, for what ever reason, no one ever questions it, so the same policy should be in effect for the athletes as well. While the athletes have their education paid for, so do the members of the band etc, not to mention the academic scholorships each school offers. And when was the last time anyone questioned the tuba players decision to leave school after his junior year?

hmm.. It really depends on the player
If the player is a first round draft choice, they'll be a starter, and they'll make a lot of money, I'd go for it. If they're mediocre, knows they'll be drafted, but not play much, they should stay in college, b/c if the sports career fails, they are gonna need something to fall back on.
How much can it hurt to just finish off college and wait a year?

Depending on the sport. baseball is not the ideal sport due to the time it takes to make the majors. In the minors you get paid next to nothing and the travel is terrible, unless you are in the first round then the the money is good. Basketball I would say yes due to the fact the money is there. You stand the chance of getting hurt, or lowering your "spot" in the draft.

If they have the opportunity to live early they should. Go and make the money while they can. Who knows, if they chose to stay, they might get hurt and never have the chance to make it pro. Now if you get hurt in the pros, at least you would have made some cash first.

leave early, they will make their money in the professional level. most of the athletes are not working toward a degree that they would fall back on anyway.

I believe that they should finish there degree because at any given moment, they can have a career ending injury and lose all their money. If they finished their degree they will have something to fall back on. If not, they are screwed.

I think if they're good enough to make a good living playing their sport, why not leave early.
