This may sound weird.
If I were in your position, I would get the GED and work while I finished High School. and got a diploma. I never finished high school but got a GED, years after I began my family. I still have dreams of what I missed. I regret that I didn't stick with it back then. I am not in a position to for back to high school but you are. Go back for all the right reasons.
You obviously desire to better yourself. Kudos.

There are two things to consider here. The first thing is do you plan on going to college. If not then getting you Diploma is the best option. Even though the GED is an "Equivalent" of a Diploma it isn't. Employer's do discriminate against a GED. Now if you do wanna go to college a GED is a "good enough diploma", but then your options are cut down to pretty much just community college. So in general you should get your Diploma UNLESS you want to go to community college.

If I were you I would get the diploma. It might seem like a long time off, but in the long run you might be glad you waited and did the school work instead. It's my understanding that a GED is the equivalent of an 8 th grade education. So stick with it I say. you could also see about becoming enrolled in another high school so you won't have to make up a year. Good luck.

If I was an employer and I had two people in front of me that had the exact same qualifications for a job and the only difference was one had a GED and the other a diploma. I would pick the one with the diploma because it shows dedication and discipline.
I would be more comfortable with the person with a diploma because they have accomplished some thing that requires time to complete and they are willing to make that kind of a sacrafice.

If you've been expelled, it's because you're not suited for the campus environment. Studies show a difference of up to $10,000 per year earning over a 1- year period for a HS grad vs a GED. If you can get yourself together, fit in on campus, and work hard, an HS diploma is better. But you may (socially) just need to get a GED, can you really see yourself at 19 sitting in a class filled with 14 year olds?

Get your diploma. Many employers look upon GED recipients as quitters -- which they are, since they dropped out of high school rather than tough it out. That says to an employer that if the going gets tough (or boring) on the job, you won't stick with it, you'll quit -- NOT a good message to send if you want a good job. Also, the GED test is a VERY HARD test -- I've tutored adults who took the test (5 hours long, by the way) who had to repeat it multiple times and still did not pass all sections -- and they were not stupid. You not only have to pass each of 5 sections, you have to get a total of a certain amount of points (this varies with each state). Not only that, you have to PAY for the test EACH TIME you re-take it -- and that is in addition to any books or tutors or classes you might need to learn the material. So stay in school, tough it out -- don't be a wimp and quit!

The choice is really yours. There a lot of options now for people with a GED. Yeah a diploma is nice to have but if you have to wait to get it then go for the GED. Then you can continue your life. Maybe even start taking some college classes

Since you are not attending school right now anyway--
I think it would be better to just go to a class and get your GED...it would probably take less time and it would get you the same benefits as a diploma.
Ninety-five percent of colleges, universities and employers consider a GED diploma equivalent to a high school diploma.

Diploma. When you fill out a job application, putting down a GED instead of a diploma creates the view that you were a discipline problem in H.S. and that's why you had to go the GED route

It is best that you seek your diploma. Two reasons, first it looks better on your resume. Second, you avoid the negative connotation of GED holders. This is just a theory, but often when GED holders are looked upon as underachievers who could not cut it in high school or that they were a total menace, so I would advise you to get your diploma.
