Technically? If a truck makes a sharp turn, it alters the Earth's wobble some infinitesimal amount, but other than the ocean tides, nothing on Earth can significantly alter its movement-- certainly not even ALL the people in the world jumping. The impact of everyone jumping would have about as much affect on the Earth's orbit as a moth slamming into the windshield of a MAC truck would on the truck's motion.

I onced asked a professor of nuclear chemistry if you took all the known nukes in the world and blew them up simultaneously in the direct orbital path of the Earth to see if it would stop it. His calculations revealed that it would take ten to the tenth power more energy to stop the Earth in its path. If all the people in China jumped at once, the energy released wouldn't even come close - a firecracker compared to a supernova, sort of.

No.

If we say that the average weight of all the people, let alone just the people in China, in the world is 200 pounds, and there are around 6 billion people, the weight of all the people would be 1.2(10^12) pounds. The Earth weighs in at around 1.32(10^25) pounds (which does include our weight, but you will see how it doesn't matter).

Dividing our weight by the Earth's weight gives:

.0000000000000909, which means our weight is only .00000000000909 percent that of the Earth. So, we can do nothing to affect the Earth's motion.

don't be so hard on him.. people have to ask stupid questions sometimes..

but hell, NO!! what makes u think the earth can be moved that easily? and did u say china? don't u know that the fattest (and of course, heaviest) country in the world is the USA? Why don't u ask the fat americans to all jump together and see how it may effect the earth..

Nope. The center of gravity of the system would remain unchanged and would continue in it's regular orbit about the sun. Even if the earth were momentarily displaced, the gravity between the people and the planet would swiftly return them back to their original positions relative to the center of gravity of the system.

No, the Earth is simply too big. Imagine a tousand fleas standing on the side of a basetball. If they were to jump, would it even nudge the basketball? No.

Yes, and if they all flushed the toilet at the same time, they'd cause a tidal wave...
