Most credit cards are free, that is they have no annual fee. However, you will pay interest on anything you charge. If you don't understand how interest works, then you really don't need a credit card.

It depends. If you have good credit, then the credit card company you apply with won't charge you anything to have charging privilages, and will assign you a credit limit.
If you have no credit, or not enough credit (there are a TON of websites about educating yourself about your credit score and history), then some credit cards will ask for a deposit (a secured card - and usually $200 or a small amount). Some credit cards will charge an annual fee, and others may just charge a higher interest rate until you've shown that you are responsible. After you have had significant time with the credit card company (at least 6 months to a year) and have made on-time payments and have not gone over limit, then they will usually raise your limit without asking for more of a deposit - some will lower your interest rate as an incentive as well.
A golden rule when working with credit cards - NEVER charge more than 50% of your limit and pay off the balance every month. So if your limit is $200, then never charge more than $100. Buy things that you would normally buy with your check book - gas or groceries - and then send a check to the credit card company right away.
Credit isn't something that you want to play with - bad credit can keep you from owning a home, buying a car, or even being hired in certain jobs. You must be responsible with credit, and if you're not ready for that, keep on carrying cash until you are.
Good luck!!!

Credit cards themselves are free, you just have to pay for whatever you charge on them.
