I'm from the U.S and I'll be visiting England, Ireland and Wales this summer. I thought it would help to ask actual British people what it is like there.

The weather in UK is very variable even in summer. We can get temperatures up to about 30degC (86F) or more. Hot sunny weather may arrive and stay for up to a week or longer at a time but there will almost certainly be periods of rainy weather. You'll just have to take your chance! And bring your umbrella.

When the warm weather does arrive you will read all about in the papers with pictures of lovely girls in Hyde Park/Brighton beach etc. (Likewise in winter when it snows all transport comes to a halt and it will be reported in depth).

Cultural notes:
Avoid travel on bank (public) holidays. Summer bank holiday is 28 August. The motorways will be logjammed on Friday as everyone 'gets away' and again on Monday as they all go back.
Avoid all town centres on Friday/Saturday nights - louts take over and there will be violence.
Unless you are prepared to pay extortionate prices, the best restaurants will be non-English - Indian, Chinese or Italian. Most towns will have a good example of at least one of these.
Do try British real ale - it may be 'warm' but thats how its meant to be.

I have just found this very charming website of a junior school in Kent. There is some information on British culture.

I'm Irish. I live in Essex. There is no such thing as "Actual British People". There are English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish. There are 60,000,000 people in the British Isles give or taken half a million or so illegal immigrants mostly 'hiding' in England. The weather in Summer is kinda like New York State in late October. There is no cultural diversity in England, like there is in America. Though like the US the police are mostly white and mostly racist. You want I should tell you about the two innocent Asian boys they shot and arrested last week or the totally harmless Brazilian they killed some months ago because they decided he looked like a terrorist. You want more cultural facts? Well among the native English, football is the national religion and sex is the national sport. The younger ones have the morals of alley cats and the older ones are mostly afraid to go out at night. Finally whatever else you do when you get here do not mix up the Irish, the Welsh, the Scottish and the English. And buy a brolley when you get here. They do one that does not blow inside out in wind and it is mighty. Bring no clothes at all other than what you are wearing. You can buy all you need day by day in 'Charity Shops'. and give them in when you are going home. Trust me on this one.

That can be tricky. I lived in the UK 5 years and it differs every year. Sometimes you get heatwaves (talking 90 degrees plus) or you get rain.

I say always be prepared for rain and the possibility that the temperature may go as low as 50 especially if you decide to visit the Highlands (Scotland). I lived in Wales and it can rain a lot and if you decide on a hike in the Breacon Beacons take a jacket in case the wind stirs.

I think you have chosen the right time of year to visit.

Unfortunately, no-one can guarantee that it won't rain in the UK....(but you might like rain)

But the British are in a better frame of mind in the Summer, and at least it will be warmer that the depths of winter.

Britain is great, and I hope you have a good time.
