I have problems with my computer when it's idle for about an hour, sometimes the screen will go blank, and it will stay that way. I wiggle the mouse and hit a key, and still the screen will not come back up. It's not the moniter, because it did this with the old one. I'm wondering if it's some kind of Standby mode or what?

Modify the bios settings
It sounds like the PC is going into suspend mode and you haven't enabled the wake up device.
Simplest just to disable the suspend time-out option

Every computer has a hibernate mode and usually hitting the power button ONCE will wake it up to the screen you were on last...if you are running windows you can change the times on these setting by going to the desktop and right mouse....choose properties....got to the screen saver tab.....choose the power options and you should see things like system stand-by and system hibernate! Hope this helps!

Your power saver needs to be changed. Here are the following steps...(FOR XP operating system)
1) right click anywhere on the desktop (not over an icon) and select the 'Properties' option
2) select the tab 'Screen Saver'
3) select the 'Power' button in the bottom of DISPLAY PROPERITES screen
4) there is a section on 'Turn off monitor' in which you need to change.

Hope that helps

It might be setup to go into standby or hibernate mode. If that's the case, then pushing the power button would restart your system. If it says something like "resuming windows" when you start up, then it went into standby or hibernate mode.

yeah the machine is going into power saving mode, to turn this off go into the control pannel, and then power saving and set everything to off or never.
this will stop the problem
