India

With the second largest population in the world and booming economy and vast nuclear reserves I'd have to say India.

The US has been outsourcing it's own jobs to India for years and in the last 4 years this practice has jumped 25,000% resulting in a skyrocketing economy for India and less jobs for middle class Americans. This is forcing many American families into poverty resulting in their children having a very poor chance in receiving an adequate education and eventually obtaining a decent job.

India has one of the most educated populations, where they start learning foreign langauges in elementary school. Indian students outperform US students in all basic subjects.

India has one of the largest nuclear reserves besides the US making it a major player in arms. Yet their religiuos beliefs of both Sikh and Hindus are based on peace, unlike christianity, judaism and islam.

There are 10 times more people in India and most don't mind hard work and studying unlike many Americans.

All of these factors contribute to the possibility of India eventually surpassing the US to becoming the next major world power.

I doubt we will see a an empire arise in our lifetimes since the world is a much smaller place than it once was. But there always is a possibility that people and nations will fall under the influence of a dominating force. Apparently many US residents fall under something like this within their christian beliefs as the separation of church and state fades in America. But, globally Christians are a minority and Islam often is the most important guiding factor of the sovereignty of many countries. Thus, if an empire could arise, it would have to be an ISLAMIC EMPIRE which would require the highly unlikely cooperation of the many Muslim nations throughout the world. Or a mutual belief in an incarnation of Allah on earth.

Either China or Russia, those country have a lotta resources and may become an empire. But I practically think that technology had made the world like a little town and countries are uniting now. The European Union it is already more powerful than the US and if you dont think so you just have to see how much is an Euro and how much is a dollar. In the future countries will unite and I think that countries an Asia will do the same thing that European countries did.

China will more than likely be an economic empire. The US is slowly declining in economic clout even though they dominate military aspects against nations without standing forces. The Chinese can man a million soldiers at the currect moment. The US is stretched pretty thin right now. China is rising as a military and economic force. Also look to Germany in regards to economic power. They are the strongest nation in the EU and, despite some internal economic problems, will only grow stronger and throwing their wieght in matters of the continent.

I think the next phase of world history will be the collapse of the nation state. Regional trading blocks (NAFTA), and new political entities such as the European Union are evidence of this trend, and in a few hundred years the world may very well be made up of a handfull of supernations that have banded together to protect their common interests. Countries will unify based on common religion, history, culture, language (U.s.a and Canada, Islamic nations). So there may be a good chance that the U.S. might be the last superpower as this trend will make empires a relic of the past.

The next empire will be the United Nations and the One World Government. The reason I say this is because the Bible spells it out pretty clearly who will reign over the land. The US will not be around, neither will the European Union. The only real references will be Russia and China, but they do not control things.

All empires will fall from within and right now the US is doing a pretty good job of destroying itself, as is China, Russia, India, and most South American countries.

The U.S will not reign forever - and I have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if we fell from power within the next 50-75 years. We've stretched ourselves thin financially, border control is lax, and we act pompously and do whatever we want. If anyone would like to argue - go look up "hubris" in the dictionary, then do some research on the Egyptians/Romans/Greeks etc. and see how it clearly applies.

China will be the next power simply b/c they have the man power, a growing economic section (China will be the next India for outsourcing), and they have the educated section...technology.

P.S: China will crush Japan before they align - there is lingering anger of the "Rape of Nanjing" as well as a general, historical dislike for each other.

Germany, England, and France will unite eventually to form the core of a new Europe. Once established, they'll start accepting other countries into the power web, such as Italy, Spain, Holland, Denmark, Beligium, and so on. Yet the core will be those three countries Germany, England, and France.
