We've consulted an MD but was told to do what we've already been doing (i.e. gatorade, rest, crackers, etc.) Just wondering if some experienced parents have any good home remedies for a 20 month old toddler who can't keep anything down. I just feel so bad for my little guy and want to help him feel better. If you know of something that has worked for you please share... any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Is he keeping the gatorade down? If not, and this keeps going, I'd seek a second opinion. It's not that he might have something serious, it could be your average virus, but throwing up constantly for days is not good. He is going to get dehydrated.

There is this anti-nausea medication that is safe for kids. It is called Emetrol, but there are store brand versions of this. The active ingredients in it are: dextrose (glucose), levulose (fructose), and phospheric acid. You give 1-2 teaspoons every 15 minutes until distress subsides. No more than 5 doses in a day. It works great on my kids and they like the taste of the cherry flavor of it!

Watch for symptoms of dehydration, seek medical attention right away if you notice these.

Severe symptoms.
A lack of interest in playing and extreme sleepiness. (The child may be so sleepy that he or she is difficult to wake up.)
A dry mouth and tongue
A sunken soft spot (fontanel) on top of the head
Sunken eyes without tears
Fast breathing and rapid heartbeat
No urination (a dry diaper) for more than 12 hours
-Go to ER if this occurs

Moderate symptoms
A decreased interest in play
A sunken soft spot (fontanel) in the head
Sunken eyes with few tears
A dry mouth, with little or no saliva
Extreme hunger or thirst
No urination for 8 hours or fewer than 3 urinations (fewer than 3 wet diapers) in 24 hours

Mild Symptoms
Irritability, agitation, fussiness, or restlessness
Hungry or thirsty most of the time
Less frequent urinations than usual or needs fewer diaper changes. The child's urine will have a stronger odor and be darker yellow than normal.

I would try to consult a different doctor. Three days is about the limit I could take for vomiting. Although he is still taking in fluids if he continues to vomit as you say "a lot" then how much is he able to keep down?

If he hasn't held anything down for 3 days, it's time to bring him to the Emergency Room. See a different MD if you have to. I wouldn't recommend just waiting it out. With all the crazy things out there right now, I would demand a diagnosis.

Your doctor is an idiot. There is no way they should have told you that. You need him hydrated. Plus, there is a suppository that stops them from vomiting. Take him to the Emergency Room. They WILL give you this remedy.

Sidebar: I hope your little one gets better, but you'd better move quickly... Freak out like a spastic parent... they WILL do something.

If your toddler has been vomiting for 3 days you should see the doctor, could be dehydrated. The doctor is right keep him on a BRAT diet, keep it light and get as much fluid in him as you can

Take him back to the hospital. 3 days is too long for a child to be vomiting, regardless of what an MD tells you. Find that MD's supervisor and report him/her. Demand that your child is seen and find out what is wrong.

Docs right, keep him hydrated. I couldn't do much but try to plug my daughhter up. giving her bananas and rice, things that were known to cause constipation. Soemtimes cheese helps out too, but the dairy can cause the vomiting too.

Good luck, sorry to here he's sick! if it perisists for too much longer he should see a doc to maek sure it's not bacterial.

Try blueberry juice, mixed with either water or gatoraid. When he has kept juice etc.. down for about 12 hours, try the BRAT diet for a day or 2...
Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast
