actually. in certain situations they trully dont have to. A cop must be able to exit his vehicle in an instint to chase after certain suspects. If they are on call and have no reports then they are still required to wear there belts as well. But if they are on a report and current either chasing a suspect or looking for one then they arnt required to wear it. Because trying to take it off can mean the diffrence between life and death for them or another person if they catch up to the suspect. The same goes for Department Of Transportatoin officers. Although now-a-days most cops are D.O.T. certified. My answer is subject to state law's however as some states may be diffrent.

Its all about safety. Cops don't want to get hurt trying to get out of a car in a wreck.

Everyone is required to wear seatbelts........even cops. And that is in all 50 states, no exceptions.

actually they do but who is going to enforce it, but if they get in an accident and they are not wearing it , then the agency that they work for technically doesn't have to cover them but they will.
