No, a hunger strike is a lame-assed way of attempting to get attention. If you want to kill yourself just freakin' do it already and spare the rest of the population the grief of having to listen to the media cover your stupid starvation.

No, its a form of protest since you are trying to achieve a goal.
Suicide is just an end to it all - not reccomended of course.

not always some people do a fast as a religious thing, others do a hunger strike to call attention to themselves that they need help.
