The word quit is defined as- to abandon, give up, relinquish, to depart from. it has nothing to do with contentment.

You quit while you're a head so you look good as you leave. Too many more situations and the genious might start to look stupid.

When you're ahead, chances are, that you're already winning or have almost won. Remaining in the competition will make you lose! So if you've already won, you can quit. But do not quit before you start because then you won't win because quitters don't win. And as for winners don't quit, that refers to potential winners and winners of the past! I'm sure they quit 'after' they won, because if they didn't, they would only have 1 major win under their hats and wouldn't be so great as to have a metaphor for them!

It seems that quitters are the idiot ones as if they keep quitting they'll never get the chance to win, still there are cases when you'd better quit to gain a bigger prize on the cost of losing a battle. Even when you're ahead.

Basically not ALL winners don't quit. Look at Lennox Lewis. Quitters can win at poker can't they?
So the idiot who said that was in a different saying at the time.

The word quit in that phrase doesn't refer to quit as in 'giving up', but to stop, to be content.

Pure sophistry here. Utter nonsense. Mumbo jumbo. Simply wordplay devoid of meaning. Falacious. And funny so long as you are not asking this seriously.

The "idiot" who said "quit while you're ahead" has always done what he's always did and as a result, he's always gotten what he's always had..no where!
