Most of the people I know who have gotten a degree in management got that degree because they had no idea what they wanted to be when they grew up! With a degree in management you can do just about anything in the business world. So with that degree you are covered in most cases. I personally would never get a business degree of any kind. But that's because I know what I want. I am sure that is not true in all cases, some people really want to go into business management and that's great, but for the most part, in what I have seen, it is a lack of a goal that people get this degree.

For many people may be money and for others may be a step in the ladder of success in the organization chart. Still, for others will be the prestige that being a manager conveys --power and authority--. The answer depends on your age and self esteem. A person with money may choose management as a career mainly to take that step that will lead him/her towards a higher goal. But, for the majority of people it may be a combination of all the reasons stated above. The answer lies on where you are (age wise and intellectually) these 2 factors will help determine where you want to be or where you want to go.

First of all you should think about question clearly. Management can be defined as the process of getting activities completed efficiently and effectively with and through other people Look around you everything you are involved with involves some sort of management. you wouldn't be here without management because it took some sort of time management for your parents to have you, its because of management that you are using the internet.
so maybe this will enlighten you on why people want to take management as there career

I have my BS in management. Management is getting the most out of your people in the most efficient and effective manner. This is great for the business, but also applies to basic everyday life. It is not about control or being in charge. It is about making sure others have what they need (skills, knowledge, ability) to handle the task assigned. As a manager, I have seen people accomplish goals they did not think they were able to accomplish. I see people grow in spirit and determination. I see people feel good about them self. Outside the business world, my management skills have helped me to better organize my world, to understand the difference between being efficient and effective, to use my time wisely, savor every resource.

It covers a lot of ground in the business world. You can get just about any administrative job with a degree/emphasis/experience like that. It's a pretty stable job. People will always need managers. Basically, if we're talking about getting a degree, it's a safe bet for getting a job. If we're talking about why some people enjoy it, some people are just sadistic like that.

Because it gives a person a chance to influence the behavior of others who might need guidance and direction, as well as a variety of resource (finances, time, inventory) It's a great way to learn about what motivates people, and to grow your social and interpersonal communication skills.
Would you rather be managed, or be a manager?

Managment put you in charge of projects and or people. Through managment you are able to delegate most of your work and if you are a high enough level manager you can delegate all of your work. and with the little to no work your acualy do you take credit for others work that you manage and get paid well for it

So that you don't have to stay at the bottom of the foodchain. Irrelavant what you end up doing as a proffession if you have management behind you you will never be at the bottom. Being told what to do all day is really irritating, telling people what to do is kind of neat and the salary is better. ;-)
