No because an atom is only a single element and thus such a "universe" would have no chemical composition except for the single atom it would have been made from

I have thought about this as well, and feel that this is a possiblity. I am not a scientist, but the line of thinking does make sense if you look at the structure of an Atom versus our Solar System. However, we know that the Atom is not a solar system because we would have detected it by now, so it must be something more vast like a galaxy or universe if the thought were to be taken to a logical end.

I had this idea a few years ago. Very nice to see I'm not the only one. I think an atom would be more like a solar system. The nucleus is the sun and the electrons are the planets. The thing I like most about this is that a second in our time would mean an eternity in the atom's time.

Yes, I do think so because everything depends on the size of the object compared to the atom. One atom can be just that, one atom, or it can be a universe, even when it would be a very small universe for us.

Ive thought of that, like maybe our universe is just one atom to some one else's universe, it's so fun to think about.

I've often wondered this as well. It seems unlikely although completely possible. Another possibilits is that our universe is all just a group of particles makeing up some larger being. I think it goes both ways.

I'm glad to see some of the answers that now give me courage to state my opinion about our Universe. I believe our Universe is but one Cell in the Body of God. Black holes are leading to this thought. Are they connections to other Universes?
