For over a millenium the catholic church and its forebears (ever since the martyrdom of the apostles) have been deciding theology based on mortal education and opinion and not divine inspiration. This includes the church's views on the nature of God (Nicene creed).
I don't think that the church is concerned that everyone will go about thinking that Christ had a child or that the church is evil--after all, the bad guy here was part of a small sect, and even that sect denies such practices as depicted in the book or movie--rather, I think that the church is more concerned that people will start to question doctrine put forth. And the problem with that is not only that people will question the doctrine about the nature of God, but if they question that, then they weill start questioning other doctrines.
In general, people who question catholic doctrine do not become catholics. Instead they choose another faith to aswage their concerns. Membership is power, and that's what the church is afraid of--losing power.

The "DaVinci" code is a fictional code that Leonardo hid in his works, suggesting that Jesus was married and had a child. Rather or not the "code" is real is beyond me.
The Catholic church is upset because this goes against the Catholic Doctrine that Jesus was the son of God, not a mortal, and therefore could never have been married or have a child.
Rather or not it is an insult to God depends on your religion and your faith.
The movie and book have made many people think, and without relinquishing my personal opinions on it, what you think and feel afterwards, again, depends on your religion and your faith.

To AngelQuimera i personally think you are just as ignorant as the rest of us in ur quote that you claim us to be. Because honestly, the book was said to fiction, its not a matter of being ignorant its more of a matter of how strong ur beliefs are. The fact that he quoted all those facts and used it all (some true btw) to create an amazing storyline that followed througout the ages was pure genius. I think your just upset because your still stuck on books like Dr.Seuss and even more upset that the book confuses you and you'll never fully understand it that the book is based on how strong your beliefs are!!
The catholic church is so mad about it is because it basically show that the bible had lies in it that we've all based our faith on. And if they lose us and our beliefs their power slowly dimnishes and if we have nothing to believe in then basically whats the point in determining right from wrong, if something we've believed in for so long to have lies in it then what else could be lies?
I personally do not think its an insult to god, because its a book its not saying "cast down ur beliefs and forget the catholic religion" its just throwing up the ideas of other people.

I believe that you have to read the book to fully understand the Davinci Code. I read the book then went to see the movie. I feel like the movie (although almost three hours long) left out all explanations to what was going on. In the book they say something then they flashback to what the meaning of what they are saying is. basically the book clarifies everything for you so you can understand what they are talking about.

I suggest that you read the book and find articles (both of which are widely available) and see for yourself. Secondly, it is a work of fiction, but author Dan Brown includes many factual events, locations in the book, which confuses many. I myself am intelligent enough to sort out the fiction from fact and those who cannot do such make me sad.

i think that it is funny that so many people are taking the davinci code this seriously. i saw the movie and it was CLEAR to me that it was a work of fiction. if it was a real theory about Jesus, why would there have been car chases and such? it was a thriller. nothing more.
