I would take the advice of Seinfeld and tell everyone to "Look to the cookie" and the words of Rodney King, "why can't we all just get along"
Oh I almost forgot...my favorite 60's slogan "Open your mind..and shut your mouth"

It's the little things that count. The cuteness of a kitty, the feeling of relaxing with a good book, watching a good sunset. As long as you can notice and enjoy these things, you can be happy even if bad stuff happens to you sometimes.
Also, it's good to help people. Maybe you can't solve all the world's problems, but even if you can only help one person in your lifetime, you can matter. Because it's better to try and make things better for one person than to not help anyone at all.

Diplomacy and benevolence are not the same, but they are equal to right use of power. Reduce consumption...reduce global warming. Imagine what it would be like if everyone in America spoke two or three languages fluently.

I would implement a program for everyone to walk a mile in someone else's moccasins...I think EVERYONE should be required to do something with another group of people that is outside their regular group/routine. For examples..
Anyone who has a place to live should have to volunteer in a homeless shelter.
Anyone who has food everyday should have to volunteer in a soup kitchen.
Anyone who is arrested for DUI has to serve in a morgue (regardless if they are charged).
Anyone who has never been sick has to volunteer in a hospital or nursing home.
Anyone who hits their children has to volunteer in the family court system.
Anyone who sexually assaults someone has to volunteer on a rape crisis line.
Anyone who wastes has to volunteer to work in a landfill.
Anyone who has children they don't like or whom they abuse have to volunteer to work with parents who can not conceive.
and on and on.
Ideally, the end result would be that even if we can't learn to *like* our neighbors, we can learn to be tolerant of what someone else might be going through.

Be kind, practice self control and let go of hate and anger.
Treat everyone as if you love them, even if you dont. People are like mirrors. What you put in, is what you get out.

empathy, sounds simple i know. but the ability to empathize with others, and actually doing so would create an entirely different civilization, imho.
