You really need to see a gynecologist to determine why your period has stopped. Depending on what they find you may or may not be able to conceive. Go quickly - whatever it is the sooner you get a diagnosis the better.

Menopause is defined as absence of your period for at least 2 years. How old are you? You can see your doctor to have an evaluation to determine by checking your hormone levels if you have completed menopause. If you are not at this age, it could be due to a hormonal or endocrine imbalance and should also be evaluated. If you haven't been through menopause and still have your ovaries and you are sexually active then yes you can still become pregnant so elect to protect until you are evaluated by a medical professional.

Yes you can. I didn't have a period for 18 months so thought it was OK to have unprotected sex. I now have a 12 year old son who is proof that you CAN get pregnant even if you are not having periods regularly.

My college roommate did not have a period for over 3 years. After she was married, regular intercourse stimulated hormones to be released that jump-started her cycle again and she got pregnant. This tells me you may not be permanently sterile, but I strongly encourage you to see a doctor since the problem could be as simple as malnutrition, or as bad as cysts on your ovaries. (Some dancers and gymnasts for example do not have regular periods, or any at all, because all nutrition consumed is burned by activity and they do not have enough excess body fat to support regular periods.)

Hi - ER nurse here...

Why haven't you had your period is the big question. Age? Menopause? Stress? Birth Control? There are many variables - so the answer is yes, unless you are 60+ or on depo shots - with a negative pregnancy test before the injections.

My mom went years between periods and had three kids, so I would say yes you can. It was always hard to tell her due date, two of us were born at least a month off of the due date.

Not having a period means you are not ovulating. No ovulation means no egg is produced, so there is nothing to be fertilized. Have you spoken to your doctor as to why this is happening?
