It depends on your age, and your genes.

If you are young and you were healthy before the birth, you can get back to shape in 6 weeks.

If an older mom and not in such great shape, then it might take up tp a year. And its hard work, as it is so tempting to finish anything the family doesn't eat, and if you feel tired, you don't feel much like extra exercise!!

Good for you, that you have good self esteem as a woman and you want to get back to normal (though you are right to question what that is, and its probably different for everyone!!)

But don't rush too much - the priorities now are your little one, and what he or she needs. If you are happy, you will look beautiful, even if you are not in shape.

As an example, I gave birth to my two sons in my twenties, and I was slim and healthy. While they were little, it was hard to shed the pounds, but I felt and looked attractive because i was happy.

Now they are teenagers I have more time to think about myself and I am slim again....though things (either on a deep emotional level or with my body shape) are never going to be quite the same, I reckon they were worth it!!

I still get compliments from men and I feel good in myself on a deeper level too.

Hope this helps!!

It certainly doens't happen overnight, but it depends on how much your body changed during pregnancy, whether or not you breastfeed, how much you exercise, your diet, and genetic factors.

For me, I gained 50lbs with my baby (i was pretty small to start out) - I dropped 25 right off, and another 10 in the next six months. She's 10 months old now and I've still got the extra 15lbs - plus my hips are shaped differently, and I don't see how the skin on my stomach and breasts will ever be the same. The skin kind of sags on my stomach (and the stomach of all other mother's who's tummies I have seen) plus all the stretch marks.

most moms I know, 'normal' is at least 5 lbs bigger than pre-pregnancy, plus stretch marks, and especially if breastfeeding, much different breasts.

That is a great question! Every body will vary in it's ability to bounce back after birth. Your main physical healing (uterus, perineum) usually takes about 6 weeks. Loosing the baby weight and getting back your figure can take quite a bit longer. My motto is always... it took 9 months to get that big so you should expect it to take about 9 months to get back to some semblance of normal.

Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your own health and the health of your baby. Did you know breastfeeding burns 500 extra calories a day?!? That's more than when you are pregnant. Research studies have proven that women who breastfeed loose weight more quickly and maintain their desired weight easier than those who don't.

In my personal experience, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight when my son was four months old. I breastfed him exclusively for the first six months and am still doing it now that he is one. My body is definitely different but overall I am totally satisfied with how things are now.

Well I had my first baby in January, and only gained about 25 pounds. I am now back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but my abs are pathetic, I can hardly do a sit-up. But every woman is different. Other than my breasts growing, and my stomach being flabby I would have to say that my body is pretty much the same, other than a couple of stretch marks that will fade with time.

The baby weight will fall off eventually, the lack of sleep helps that happen lol but if you are anything like me it wont all completely go (I still have a bit of baby tummy) then of course theres the stretch marks!!!
To be honest tho you should look upon the changes as trophies cos you have just given birth, an amazing feat you've made another person

It should only take a few weeks (6-8) to be back to normal. The vagina will tighten up, the uterus will shrink, pretty much back to prepregnancy. The hips have moved and will not go back (but wide hips are sexy anyway).

It took me almost a year to lose all the weight and outwardly look like my before baby self.

Some people will say that your body will never look the same again! But, if you breastfeed you will return to your prepregnancy wieght pretty quickily, usually witin 3 months. However, my own experience was that by the time my baby was 10 days old I was back in my old jeans. I still find though that ther is loose skin probably if I went to gym it would tighten up.

They [doctors] say after 1 year since birth your body is ready for another pregnancy. But when it comes to weight some women after 15 years say they have not lost "baby weight", others look like models in a month.
My baby is 17months old and I still have extra 20lb [after birth had extra 40lb]. As you know, you have to watch what you eat and exercise... Going to a health club should not efect your milk production [if you are brestfeeding].

It is differnt for every person and every pregnancy. When i had my son I went from 117 to 137 and was back to 125 a month after i had him. With my daughter i went from 123 to 159 and after three months now i have only got to 142. Exercise is the best way to lose the weight.

It takes about 6 months to start looking normal again. Your body will never be the same as it was before. You have a more womanly shape now. Just eat right and everything will FALL into place.
