This is not a person question and may appear vague or unifnormed but it is meant in all seriousness, as i am not sure myself!
A close friend of mine hadnt had her period yet, and thought she may be pregnant. I advised her to take a pregnancy test as soon as possible-However, she was too afraid to go and get one done with either myself or anyone else. (she is quite young, nearly 17).
In the end, she took one whilst she was drunk, as it was the only way in which she could gather up her courage! She took a total of two clear blue tests which btoh said that she was NOT pregnant.
However, i am still worried for her as i am not sure whether not pregnancy tests are valid, or give valid (true) results, if the woman was drunk or under the influence whilst taking it??
Please could someone help me on this matter! I cant find any relevant information anywhere!
Thanks! xx

Alcohol "should not" effect the presence of the pregnancy hormones that are detected by pregnancy tests.
About two-thirds of the way down the page for the source listed below, it says:
"Factors which should not affect the test result include alcohol, analgesics (pain killers), antibiotics, birth control pills or hormone therapies containing clomiphene citrate (Clomid or Serophen)."

The best people to contact would be the manufacturer of the pregnancy test. They generally have a Contact Us facility through their web site or a customer service helpline.
I would imagine that they would state it in the leaflet/instructions that came with the test if it affected the test.
This poor young girl cannot bury her head in the sand, while she is in the early stages of pregnancy there are a lot more choices open to her if she chooses to terminate the pregnancy, if she waits, then the choices she has get smaller with the worst case being that a late abortion will mean labour being induced and her having to push a dead baby out of her.
She's very lucky to have you as her friend, but I would take her to the family planning clinic and get her some advise on conctraception... hopefully this experience has been enough of a scare for her to start taking this seriously.
I wish her all the luck in the world

Pregnancy tests test for a hormone (HCG) which is only present while pregnant, so no matter if she was drunk or not the hormone would be there if she were pregnant. The only reason that it would be negative and she would still be pregnant is if the hormone levels were not high enough to be caught by the test, for example if she were only a day or two late rather than a week or two late the homone levels would be much lower. I do hope that if she does by some chance end up being pregnant that she would not continue to drink alcohol. Best of luck to your freind and God bless you for being such a good friend.

First of all...it's pretty damn sad that there was even a risk of pregnancy and her solution to the problem was to get tanked.
You're not supposed to drink when you're expecting, or even if you suspect that you're expecting. So ...Strike one.
Second...If she doesn't think she's ready for a baby...she's not ready for sex...because nine times out of ten, especially when there are teenage children involved...sex results in pregnancy....we won't even get into the subject of sexually transmitted diseases.
Third...There are NO FALSE POSITIVES...but FALSE NEGETIVES ARE VERY COMMON.
Tell her to grow up, put down the 40oz and take a FIRST RESPONSE home pregnancy test. It is the most sensative on the market. It is the only one that will pick up as little as 12.5 HGC...more than twice as effective and sensative as "Clear Blue Easy" tests.
Check the results yourself. www.peeonastick.com
By the way...The First Response test can give you accurate results up to a week BEFORE the missed period. It told me I was pregnant three days before I was supposed to start my period.

Being drunk won't affect the test's accuracy.
However, if she were only a few weeks pregnant, it's possible for the hormone that is detected by the tests to be diluted if you drink too much water (or alcohol), which is why they recommend doing it first thing in the morning.
If she hasn't started her period in a few days she should take another, just to be certain.

I took 5 home pregnancy tests from the day i missed my period till i was six weeks and all of them were negative. I took all tests according to the instructions. i then went to the doctor as i was worried that id missed a period. The doctor told me that i wasnt to worry that home tests were 99% accurate but to take a doctors test anyway. The doctors test came back positive.
Never believe a home pregnacy test. I definetly wont again.
The day after i found out i was pregnant i miscarried.
Tell your friend to take a doctors test as the concequences are not nice and tell her not to drink until she finds out as this can be harmful to the baby

I would make her go see a Dr. I had a few home test tell me nothing they where blank and I took them a few days when I was past due for my period, than a week or so went by and still didn't have my period I took another one and it came out positive....Yeah its nerve racketing to find out that you are pregnant when its not planned, your friend just needs to go in and get it done sober, if she feels comfortable without someone in the bathroom with her, then be there for her when she does it....

Even if you are drunk the test will read the same. Chances are she is not pregnant. Those test are very accurate, but it may be to early to tell. They can detect pregnancy as early as 5 days before your missed period.

She's in the clear. Tests detect a hormone level - alcohol doesn't impact it. However, they're only valid if her period was already late. Otherwise, the hormone level isn't high enough for the test to detect.

I can reassure you that a pregnancy test is valid if drunk or sober it has nothing to do with alcohol levels it measures hormone levels. I think your friend should be ok thankfuly as if she was drunk the baby would be too!! only kidin
