An efficiency apartment is a smaller, and cheaper version of a one-bedroom apartment.
A studio apartment, is usually all contained in one room, sometimes even a bathroom may be part of the one room.
As it has become evident from the other posters, an efficiency apartment and a studio apartment can be considered the same thing or vastly different. The most logical thing to do, would be to ask whomever is offering the apartments and check it out for yourself, with real-estate lingo, it can vary from seller to seller. So take a look at the apartment/apartments and decide if they are something you are really looking for.

A studio apt is above the building and has a basic layout of reg apt with no framed walls (full kitchen, bedroom area, sitting area) and an Efficiency apt is anywhere in a building with no bedroom and it looks like one big room (kitchen is all along one wall and no real counter space, the only separate room is the bathroom).
The movie "Big Daddy" has a studio apt in the script

In my experience, an efficiency has a smaller kitchen area. Both are generally one big room with no walls per se, but an efficiency may not have all the appliances or the appliances may be smaller than what you would find in a studio. Also the bath in an efficiency is generally only a shower, not a shower tub combo.

So what is the difference between a studio and an efficiency? Other than the nomenclature, there isn't any.
No matter what you call the apartments, residents agreed that they are too small for entertaining. But the building's close-to-everything location still enhances residents' social lives.

Generally speaking size and cost.
A studio is more of a no wall opened floor plan apartment. An efficiency is a small no BR apartment. However, you will see property owners try to spice up the sound of their efficiency by calling it a studio apartments.

While they are both pretty much the same, it's been my experience that an efficiency is smaller and sometimes doesn't come with a kitchen or anything. It's almost like you are living in a huge closet.

both are almost the same. A studio has room for your bed. An efficiency has one of those beds that you have to put back in the wall when you are done. (Mason bed?)
