My friend is attracted to older (30-40 year old) women and when he told his aunt (who he never has been close to) about it, she said that they were too old for him and he needs to find someone his own age. When she told him that, he just got so angry and was talking about cutting her out of his life. He said that he would have rather her told him that he was not meant for any woman. This was a couple of years ago and he still is angry at her.

Should he still have a relationship with her or is it best for him to cut her completely out of his life? I am trying to help him but don't know what to say to him.

I think that his reaction is rather extreme. I understand that he is mad, but she probably didn't mean anything by it. I mean, if he found a woman that was 30-40 y/o and was happy with her, the aunt would not care (more than likely) about the age of the woman. I think that the friend has some anger-management problems and perhaps should seek some counseling.

You don't say how old you or your friend is; but I'm guessing younger than 30. He needs to get over his aunt's comments. If he didn't want to hear anything he shouldn't have told her. She offered what she believed to be good feedback. It's his life and he can learn the hard way, or perhaps listen to his aunt and be careful in choosing someone with whom to have a relationship. I'm sure his aunt is a little confused by his behavior and reaction and I think he should revisit her and renew the bond even if it was never close.

How old is he? I think he got way to angry for no reason, its just her opinion. He can do whatever he wants and if he does find the right women and shes 30-40 big deal, if shes a wonderful person then people will love her no matter what.

I think that he should still have a relationship with her because after all he told her about his feelings for an older women and seems like he was waiting for some kind of answer maybe to help him decide what to do? You shouldn't cut someone out of your life because they expressed an opinion about something.

I would say keep the relationship with the aunt. But be sure to let her know exactly where he still stands with this relationship. The heart wants what the heart wants and there is no changing that.

the thing about family is this: you don't get to pick them. and while that may seem like a con, the good thing about family, is that usually they let ya get away with treating them like crap, and next week, they're still your family. she's his aunt. his mother's sister. to sever a blood tie would hurt EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY. instead, why not allow her to take a small part in your life, but don't bring up touchy subjects while around her. she's always going to be related to you, so don't try to stop relating to her, just swallow your pride, maybe your aunt was right.

why would you stay mad for three years about anything that anyone SAID. they're WORDS.

Sounds like he's attracted to his aunt. You know how when you are very attracted to someone and for fear of rejection ( or some other reason) you act like you hate them and can't stand them, you're over critical about them...well,it sounds like that to me.
