Yes, because his exploits as a player are what should get him considered, not the fact that he was a numbskull betting on baseball, including his own team!

I may be a little biased since i grew up a reds fan (go reds) but Pete should absolutely be in He hall he is the all time hits leader he was an all star at 4 different positions it is the baseball hall of fame not the human being hall of fame there are hard core racists convicted felons in the hall so why not Pete?

It really bugs me when people say things like "he bet as a manager, but you put him in as a player, not as a manager".

What people don't understand is that you don't put Pete Rose the player or Pete Rose the manager in the Hall, but you put Pete Rose the PERSON into baseball's sacred temple.

The other thing that bugs me is equating steroid use with betting on baseball.

1. When you use steroids, you're doing it because you're trying to win. When you bet on baseball, there is always the possibility that you might not be trying your hardest to win.
2. There is one rule that is posted in every major league clubhouse (and has been forever): You cannot bet on baseball. Other stuff like corking and doing steroids is not allowed, but the one cardinal rule that you cannot go afoul of if you want to keep playing baseball is that you cannot bet on baseball. Pete Rose knew that he was facing expulsion from the game if he bet on baseball, yet he did anyways. Now he has to face the consequences.

Plus, he lied to us for 15 years about it, and then when he told the truth (which everyone already knew), he expected full forgiveness and a quick entry into the Hall.

(personally, I think my first point's the most important though)

Sorry Pete, we will always remember your hustle and hitting skills, but we will have to remember them outside the Hall.

I would say YES.

I am not a Red's fan, nor am I a Pete Rose fan. I really don't like Pete Rose...but you have the give the man his due. Yes, he bet on his own sport while managing the team and playing...but that is in the past...can't we all just live and let live? I think we can, but MLB has to get their head out of their butts and see that Mr. Rose deserves this honor. I hope he does get it someday, hopefully soon.

The fact is simple they are punishing him for things he did as a manager. The player Pete Rose should be in the HOF and the manager Pete Rose should be band. I know there is no real way to tell the difference but if you can have people in for being a player, a manager, a writer (why the hell should writers be in the HOF), broadcaster and management then Pete Rose the player should be in the HOF cause he was a great player

The answer to this question is yes without a doubt. Granted he did break a rule, but look at the records he broke also. He is arguably one of the best players to play the game of baseball. He never went without giving his all weather he was coaching or playing.

Yes because gambling doesn't make you a better baseball player. He was a great player, setting aside his problems.I don't like his attitude at all but I do think he is a great part of baseball history.

No, he bet on baseball and lied about it. However IF he is let into the hall of fame, then they had better let Joe Jackson in as well.

Yes. he should. The Hall of Fame is to honor those who have had extraordinary accomplishments in baseball. he stupidly gambled on baseball however, that doesn't negate his incredible accomplishments in baseball.
