I think for "X" I will choose Herbert Spencer's notion that " Education has for its object the formation of character." coupled with Trevelyan's observation that "Disinterested intellectual curiosity is the life blood of real civilization.
So, to me, X = C + C + C (Character + Curiosity + Civilization)

You already solved for x. That's why it's alone on the other side of your equation. That's what you do to solve for x. You get it on the other side of the equal sign all alone.
I think x stands for equal education for everyone. And I hope they get around to the math portions.
You're welcome.
