That is not right. If your friend is the one who has to dish out the 1 grand to the a**hole in the new car, when it wasn't his fault{if he was hit from behind} I wouldn't pay the a**hole any money and call the cops. That is blackmale and it is a crime in most states, depending on the cops. I definetly would pay the jerk any money, His insurance will pay to fix his car even if he did call and report a hit and run. Good Luck!

They should have called the cops at the scene. I would call the cops now. Since the cops weren't called, your friend could be in a legal nightmare.

I wouldn't hand over the $$ though. There is no way to prevent the person from trying to sue even though he got paid. But there is no way for him to try to call in a hit and run if they exchanged names and numbers. Hit and run means you never stopped.

Your friend is in a mess. I would let the other driver file with the insurance and let them handle it. He may need a lawyer.

The cops should have been called at the time it happened. If all 3 cars left the scene of the accident they are all in trouble now, really if someone in one of those cars is feeling delay hurting reaction.......there can be a huge fine for leaving the scene without reporting it to the cops.

your friend should have never left the scene of the accident, as soon as he was threatened he should have called the cops himself. Now if the guy calls it in then your friend is screwed because he left the scene of an accident with more than $50 damage (assuming) and he is going to get tickets for that, have to claim it on his insurance to get the guys car fixed and he will most likely get points on his license. What a moron.

Call the police. You have insurance which will cover the damage. The guy you hit needs a lawyer because he just threatened you with extortion. You need to tell the police what happened and that you were threatened. It would help if you have a witness. Next time, call the police immediately. Don't wait.

That is extortion. Pure and simple. Or a scam. If it hasn't already been reported to the police. Do it immediately! If there are no witnesses as to what happened, unfortunately, if you rear end someone, you are automatically at fault. But it sounds too fishy. Why would he not want it reported to the police if he was innocent? Is there any damage to your friends car that could support his story as to what happened? But don't pay him any money directly. Talk to the police immediately, what he is doing is illegal in any state.

sounds to me like it's a scam. The car that hit you from behind took off correct? Who sounds to me like they were in cahoots with the vehicle that he caused you to hit. your friend should have called the police to make a report of the accident, as long as he didnt leave the scene...it wasnt a hit and run.

At this point I would contact my insurance company and local law enforcement. I would not pay this person - you may be the victim of a staged accident.
In the future; you should never leave the scene of an accident. leave the vehicles in place until an officer can record the scene.

First, those kind of offers are always suspicious, what if they both work together, think about it!!
Second, if someone ran into u from behind let someone check it, maybe there is evidence.
And above all get legal advice immediaTLY

Insured? Call the insurance agency. Not insured? Good luck, not many options are available.
