Both. Usually they have some gift for story telling, and then through training (school) and practice, they become better writers.

A great question, one I've often wondered myself. Consider this, I am 47 years old, I have worked for large company's for more than 20 years. I left my JOB in November of 2005 to write. I love to read fiction and non-fiction books and I have a wild imagination. Back in August of 2005 I wrote a 103 page book entitled "The Un-Official NASCAR Fan Guide", I self published the books and have sold about 40 copies so far. I'm also about 150 pages into a fictional Novel. So, was I born to be a writer or was I Made? How can this be correctly answered? My gut answer is, it doesn't matter. If you write, you are a writer. whether you were made or born to be a writer does not matter.

The act of breathing doesn't do a thing to put words on a page. The only way to go from writer wannabe to a real writer is to sit your butt on a chair and get to work. I've heard discussions of how many people "want" to be a writer and think they have the Great American novel in them - but they never actually get around to writing it.

It takes a lot of work to breathe life into all those little marks on a page. Talent may be inborn, but real writers are made.

I think everyone is born to do something so I think some writer's are born to write. And what do you mean by "real writers"? Are you talking about writer's that are popular?

Personally I believe that they are made. One becomes a good writer in many ways. Life experience, schooling, and various social influences are all factors. It's the whole nature vs nurture thing applied to writing. think about it. If you parents are writers does that mean the child will also be? Not necessarily.

Real writers are made. When your child is young you must teach him to enjoy writing. No one is born writing. How he or she accepts and appreciates writing at a very young age will determine weather or not they will become a good writer.

Well a person can be taught the framework and techniques of writing but the writer cannot be taught how to write. A writers ability to write comes from the varied exeriences that the writer has had and different kinds of exposure to myraid things in life.

I think everyone has an amount of natural talent or skill in different areas and that writing is no exception. You start out with what is God given. However, as the saying goes, "99% of genius is persperation and 1% is inspiration" - meaning that most genius and excellence is the result of hard, hard, HARD work! :) If you want 2 good examples: 1. Edgar Allen Poe- they say that man would work in the night, working like a madman to perfect his writing. 2. Ernest Hemmingway- he was a man who edit his work to no end, usually until the publisher more or less pulled the manuscript from his hands.

Hope this helps!
